Most law firms are adopting artificial intelligence more quickly than they’re documenting its benefits, creating a “strategic blind spot” that could bedevil COOs in the future, according to a new report.
Roughly two-thirds of the respondents in the 2026 Law Firm COO Survey Report from Blickstein Group say their firm does not formally document efficiency gains from AI. As a result, the report says, the expected benefits of AI “remain beliefs,” but “belief and documentation are not the same thing.”
“If firms are investing in AI but not measuring the return, COOs will eventually have to answer challenging questions about these major investments in money and training.”
The report draws on a survey of 213 law firm COOs and principal administrators.
