Antonin Scalia Would’ve Hated Today’s Supreme Court Security Restrictions

Ed. note: Welcome to our daily feature, Quote of the Day.

He really enjoyed driving, so the restrictions today’s justices are subject to would have frustrated him.

Christopher Scalia, one of the late Justice Antonin Scalia’s nine children, in comments given to the ABA Journal, concerning how his father might have felt about the security restrictions placed on today’s Supreme Court justices. The elder Scalia was reportedly “known to drive fast” and drove himself to the high court each day from his home in the Virginia suburbs. In a National Review article published earlier this week, Christopher Scalia recalled that “for much of his time on the court, our home address and phone number were listed in the phone book.” That level of accessibility would be virtually unthinkable for a Supreme Court justice today, amid heightened security concerns and threats against members of the Court.
